The Lair

The Lair is a Certified Texas Wildscape (Certification # 454, granted June 1, 1995). This means that we have met certain criteria for habitat: food, cover, water, and shelter...and are developing the place further to provide more of those four things. We have the usual wildlife around here, deer, turkey, quail, bobcats, red fox, gray fox, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, all kinds of birds, including the Black Crested Titmouse and Brown Towhee. We have blue bird houses (we are bird watchers). We manage our fields to be sure that forbs grow which are necessary for the deer and other wildlife, provide certain kinds of cover for quail, and we have added a wildlife tank or pond.

Farris and I decided that we wanted to devote the latter part of our lives to providing habitat for animals and to have a place of rest and relaxation for our city-bound family and friends, who visit us often. That is why we named it The Lair...a secret dwelling...a refuge. Our motto is:

"The Lair... haven for flora, fauna, family and friends."
